Exploring the magnificent coastlines of Northern Norway

We sail to the waters where we have the biggest change to spot a diversity of whales. Moreover, this is the best place on earth to see the Northern lights!

Day 1: Tromso: the gateway for spotting whales around Andenes

In the harbor of Tromso our sailingship Noorderlicht is waiting for you where you can board from 1600.

Day 2-5:

Together with our experienced crew and guide aboard you will create a fitting schedule for the coming days. The route we will sail will depend on the location of whales, wind and weather circumstances.

We will certainly try to sail around the coast of Skjervøy. It is home to large populations of herring and plankton, which attract humpback whales and orcas. This makes this area one of the best places in the world for spotting whales in large numbers. We hope to find the fjords where the whales are hunting for herring so we have the honour of observing them in their natural habitat. Together we will look out from the deck for the whales and once we find them, we will admire them from a safe and responsible distance without disturbing them in their hunt for food.

Day 6: Return towards Tromso

Depending where we aree, we will spend this day sailing back towards Tromso.

Day 7: Disembarkation

After breakfast our voyage has come to an end. We say goodbye and hope to see you again on board the Noorderlicht.

This travel itinerary is a general guide and subject to changes based on factors like weather, daylight availability, and wildlife viewing opportunities. The goal of this expedition is to explore the Arctic primarily by sailing, utilizing favorable winds. The specific route, along the west or east coast of an island, will be determined by the captain considering the prevailing weather conditions. Certain destinations may require landing authorization from national authorities, which cannot be obtained before itinerary publication. The captain has the authority to decide whether to use sails or the engine for propulsion. Flexibility is crucial for an authentic Arctic sailing experience, and a willingness to compromise on comfort is appreciated.

Swan Expeditions planned all trips in advance with the goal and expectation of executing them. This is based on previous experiences and bookings in this travel season. In order to guarantee and execute a group trip, a minimum number of participants is required. In the exceptional case that the minimum number of participants is not reached and the trip cannot take place, you will be informed well in advance, but at least 21 days before departure. Swan Expeditions will always do its utmost to offer an alternative trip and/or departure date. A full refund of the travel sum is, of course, also possible. In the event that a trip cannot go ahead due to a force majeure situation, other conditions may apply where a full refund is not possible.
